Whole-Home Rewiring
A full, modern rewire for older homes, done carefully and to code.
You’re in good hands. Our team will follow up promptly.
Some homes, particularly those built before the 1960s, were originally wired with materials and methods that don’t meet a modern household’s safety standards or power needs. Knob-and-tube wiring, undersized branch circuits, and decades of incremental patches add up to a system that’s better replaced wholesale than repaired piece by piece.
Signs Your Whole Home Needs Rewiring
- Your home still has any original knob-and-tube wiring, common in homes built before the 1950s.
- You’ve had multiple separate wiring repairs in different parts of the house within a short span.
- Your insurance company has flagged the home’s wiring age or type as a condition of coverage.
- Outlets are two-prong (no ground) throughout most of the home.
- You’re planning a full remodel and want the electrical system brought up to current standards while walls are already open.
What Full Rewiring Involves
A full rewire replaces the home’s branch circuit wiring throughout, typically alongside a panel upgrade, since old wiring is almost always paired with an undersized panel. It’s invasive work, but it’s also a chance to correct decades of ad hoc changes at once rather than continuing to patch an aging system.
Protecting historic and older homes. In older or architecturally significant homes, we work carefully to safely shut off the power to and remove legacy wiring while protecting original plaster, trim, and woodwork, rather than treating the rewire as a demolition project. The goal is a modernized electrical system inside a home that still looks and feels like itself.
Whole-Home Rewiring Cost
Per our current pricing guide, whole-home and partial rewiring is priced at $18 per square foot, with the final total depending on the home’s size, wall/attic/crawlspace access, and whether a panel upgrade is bundled into the same project.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my whole house needs rewiring, or just a repair?
If your home has any original knob-and-tube wiring, has had several unrelated wiring repairs recently, or still has mostly two-prong ungrounded outlets, a full rewire is usually the more responsible fix than continuing to repair sections individually. A single isolated fault, on the other hand, is usually just Wiring Repair.
How much does it cost to rewire an entire house?
Per our current pricing guide, rewiring is priced at $18 per square foot, with total cost depending on the home’s size and access. A panel upgrade, if bundled in, is priced separately.
How long does whole-home rewiring take?
It depends heavily on the home’s size, wall/attic access, and whether it’s occupied during the work. We provide a project-specific timeline once we’ve assessed the property.
Will rewiring damage my home's original finishes?
We work carefully to protect plaster, trim, and woodwork in older and historic homes throughout the process rather than treating it as demolition. Some minor patching after wire runs are complete is typically expected.
